The Dark Side of The Digital Revolution

     This article is written by Gerald Kane, an associate professor of information systems . He talks about how digital revolution affects our businesses. In fact, the digital world is changing constantly and it triggers an immediate response from the way we do business. One of the ways to respond to the digital revolution is changing the business strategy and culture. For instance, being able to be available online for customer service such as having a mobile app, and a twitter account to solve the most frequent questions from customers. However, it is not as easy as that, it is hard to convince executives to see what is beyond responding to the digital world. It is challenging to think about a strategy that will pay us back 10-to 20- year timeframe. We need to have answers to questions like how the industry will look like in the future? What kind of company will survive in that changing environment? we should apply technology as a learning platform in our company environment. Moreover, scalability and flexibility have to be key values in our culture, so we can be successful in the digital world. Digital revolution will not only help us to survive, but to thrive and be efficient in doing business. It is a dark side only if we are not be able to adopt it.
