A New Form of Teaching

In the video “Classroom of the Future: The New Way to Teach Kids” we learn about how technology can help students learn in new and different ways - what an LA school is calling “blended learning”. The students are using laptops to acquire different ways of learning. The teacher splits her class of 36 into 3 groups of 12. Each group is assigned a different part of a lesson. One group would be working independently, while another group is working together to solve some questions, and the last group is working with the teacher. Throughout the class, the groups switch so that each student has a chance to work at every station. The reason they call it blended learning is because they are incorporating technology into the everyday classroom. I think that this is a great idea because our generation is using technology more and more so why not bring that into schools to get the benefits of using laptops in class. I also like that the teacher is able to look on her computer to see that everyone is on task - if a student isn’t on task then the teacher can send them a private message to get them back on track. I think this style of learning is beneficial for the students because it keeps them involved and gives them a set task to harness their attention. I think this teaching style is also useful for the teacher’s because it allows for them to interact with more students. As a student, I wish my high school would have used this teaching style.
