Are Threes Too Easy?
In basketball you see players trying to take three-pointer more often than ever before. You have players like Steph Curry on the Golden State Warriors making three-pointers all game long. That poses a question are three pointers too easy to make? In an article written by K.M. McFarland called "Three Ideas for Remaking the Three-Point Shot" he talks about three options the NBA could do to deal with this. The first is move the three-point line back further than the 23 feet and 9 inches it is at right now which I think is a good idea. Players like Curry are draining threes so to increase the competitive nature I think this way would be a good way of doing that. The other idea was to do nothing a leave the game how it is and who cares if their a players that are good at their jobs. The last idea was to take strategies from golf and calculate a distance from the hoop that makes the percentage of scoring a three at a certain level like golf has. Or be like baseball and have a minimum distance the line has to be back for example 22 feet and allow the teams to create their own lines to fit their teams skills like how baseball teams can create how far their home runs are. I think the last option would cost too much money to recreate stadiums to fit the three point lines teams would want. Therefore, I think option one or two would be the best either move it back a bit or leave it where it is already. At one point there wasn't even a three-point line until 1979 and everyone thought it would be pointless so I wonder what the NBA will decide to do if anything.
